You have chosen to apply for a new commercial connection. This application applies to single commercial or industrial premises on a new site, splitting existing units into further units or farm premises that typically use loads of 15kVA or more (e.g. commercial, industrial, agricultural, public, community, or shared service purposes, as well as residential developments where the supply serves common or communal areas.
In order to provide you with a valid quote, accurate information must be provided in your application
Datacentre operators seeking a new or modified electricity connection must now refer to ESB Networks’ LEU Pre-Engagement and Application Process for datacentres, which outlines the specific application, assessment and connection process for this customer category.
These requirements are informed by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities’ decision on large energy user connection policy, published under reference CRU/2025236. Customers should review this decision paper for full details of the regulatory framework applying to datacentre connections in advance of an application. Please see links below to the LEU pre-engagement & application process and the data centre pre-application notification;
Large Energy User - LEU Pre-Engagement and Application Process
For a small commercial business: once you have accepted the quote and made payment, we aim to complete your new connection within 60 business days.
For a large load: a considerable lead time can occur from application to connection, relating to investigating the connection method, establishing costs and when the contribution is paid, carrying out work to provide the connection. Connection times vary considerably from one installation to the next. Large LV or smaller MV loads, typically >100kVA, involving a substation can take 6 to 9 months from application to connection or longer if your application relates to a site located within an area where we are presently experiencing Limited Capacity; major business loads, e.g. over 4MVA, requiring a high voltage 110kV connection can take over 2 years.
While we will make every effort to meet these target timeframes, you may experience delays due to current high demand. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you.
In order to complete your application the following are required:
**Your builder or architect should be able to provide you with ordinance and site plan maps. If you do not have them, they are available for purchase on the Tailte Éireann website.

How to find your site’s ITM co-ordinates
ITM centre point co-ordinates are usually found on your ordnance survey location map in the top right corner. They are expressed as two six-digit numbers, separated by a comma.
How to find your site’s GPS co-ordinates
GPS co-ordinates provide your location in latitude and longitude and appear as two numerical values, such as (51.877520, -8.507442).
The easiest way to find your GPS co-ordinates is by using Google Maps. On a smartphone or computer, drop a pin on the exact location of your site. You will need to zoom in as far as you can to provide a precise location. To drop a pin, click or touch and hold on the location of your site.
On a mobile, once you’ve dropped the pin, touch it to reveal the GPS co-ordinates. On desktop, the GPS co-ordinates will appear when you drop the pin or right click and select ‘what’s here’. Latitude and longitude will appear at the bottom of the screen.
