Is This a Good Time?

What is it?

The 'Is This a Good Time?' programme offers participants the opportunity to get rewarded for creating a more sustainable Ireland. By signing up:

  • You'll get useful information and tips by email and SMS to help you learn how to take control of your home's electricity usage.
  • You'll find out when the best times are to use your electrical appliances (i.e. outside of peak hours of 5pm to 7pm or when renewable electricity is being generated)
  • You'll also earn digital eGift cards for taking control when you receive an energy event notification.

How to take part?

Step 1: Sign up to our programme

  1. Log in to your ESB Networks online account.
    1. If you don't have an account, you'll need to create one first to log in.
    2. Have your MPRN ready - you'll need it to earn rewards. Find out how to locate your MPRN here.
  2. Click the 'Time for rewards' icon.
  3. Complete the online form.

Step 2: Take action

  1. Once you're part of the programme, you'll be invited to join energy events.
  2. There are three types of events: Flex Down, Flex Up and Peak events. Each corresponds to times when we have different levels of renewable electricity available.
  3. Take the actions corresponding to the event type to be eligible to earn rewards and help Ireland on its renewable journey.

Flex Down event

There is less renewable energy available, try to avoid electricity heavy appliances.


Recommended actions:
1. Avoid using washing machine/dryer
2. Postpone charging electric vehicles
3. Reduce heating/cooling usage
4. Switch off non-essential appliances

Flex Up event

There is surplus renewable energy, take advantage of the available renewable energy.


Recommended actions:
1. Use washing machine/dryer
2. Charge electric vehicles
3. Run dishwasher
4. Pre-heat/cool your home

Peak event

Limit the use of your home appliances that use a lot of energy during this time by shifting use to before or after the 5-7pm window.


Recommended actions:
1. Shift appliance use outside 5-7pm
2. Prepare meals before/after peak
3. Avoid simultaneous high-energy usage
4. Use stored energy if available
