38 kV projects
For a stronger local electricity supply and for better grid resilience
ESB Networks is committed to providing a safe, reliable and efficient electricity supply to our communities. To meet the growing demand for electricity and the resilience of our power infrastructure, we are introducing the need for new 38 kV overhead lines as the optimum solution to meet this growing demand.

About us
At ESB Networks we truly value the trust that has developed with our customers, communities, and landowners over many years. As the use of electricity evolves, so too must our local networks. We also understand the importance of keeping this at the centre of everything we do. We hope to have the support of the community as we develop these important local projects. We will engage positively with everyone, as these projects develop, and balance local constraints and ESB Networks requirements.
We are looking forward to engaging constructively with our communities to develop a future-proofed grid, as we transition to a more sustainable and resilient future.
Your views and opinions matter to us, and therefore we will endeavour to plan these projects in an efficient, economic, and technically acceptable way forward.
Connecting Ireland’s power network
- ESB Networks has over 3,000 employees all over the country. We build and run the medium and low voltage electricity systems, including substations, overhead lines, poles, and underground cables. These new 38 kV lines will form a vital part of this local electricity supply network.
- We always put our customers first, no matter which electricity supplier they use.
Our purpose – Connecting a clean electric future together
At ESB Networks, we make sure electricity reaches the homes and businesses of over 2.5 million customers safely and efficiently, every day, every hour, and every minute.
- We know the world is changing quickly because of advancing technology. This means the role of electricity is changing too, bringing new challenges and opportunities.
- Our goal is to build, maintain and improve the electricity networks to meet the changing needs of people today and in the future.
Key benefits include
- To greatly improve the local electricity network, especially its connectivity and reliability – by creating these important new distribution lines, so electricity can be maintained even during routine maintenance or at times of unexpected faults.
- Support future growth – providing extra capacity for existing and new homes, businesses, and farms, as well as helping with the transition to new low-carbon technologies like electric vehicles and heat pumps.
- Maintain reliable, modern, resilient, electrical supply standards – ensuring our network meets modern living standards and aligns with national climate and energy goals.
