• In response to the commitment made in the Networks for Net Zero Strategy, ESB Networks has developed a set of evidence-based scenarios (central, no-storage, industry-led and consumer-led), each one a possible pathway to achieving 2025 demand side and flexibility. These sources have been identified as the most likely viable sources of large-scale flexible demand in Ireland in a 2–3 year timeframe.

Market Design looks to ensure that we have the right market in place to support all customers in engaging with flexibility services. The key objective of Market Design is to identify and provide solutions to our customers that meet a range of different needs. We want to introduce products that provide certainty to our customers and help drive participation in supporting Ireland to meet its Climate Action targets.

• ESB Networks aims to ensure that domestic customers are supported to proactively participate in flexible demand, before initiatives are handed over to their suppliers, aggregators and energy innovators to grow the market and innovate.
• We want to make it easy for customers to engage with their local energy system, participating in flexibility markets and making active choices in the use of energy. Data insights will be harnessed, and digital technologies will be leveraged to ensure a personalised customer journey.

• Power Systems Requirements looks at the power system engineering and analysis that we use to define and introduce new flexibility products. Power system analysis gives us an insight into how the distribution system works and the constraints associated with it. With this knowledge, ESB Networks can look to ensure that products and services offered to customers are efficient, reliable and secure.

2. Are there technical products that you have experience of from other countries, that you expect to see on our roadmap? (For example, products targeted at relieving congestion on the network; products which may address voltage issues; products addressing issues with system strength)
3. Are there new technologies (for example storage) that you think will have a big impact on power quality on the network, and that you think we should be anticipating? What different impacts would you expect from these technologies? Have you experience of products which might alleviate these impacts?
