Update on Smart Meter Data Issue

Website Banners 1200x628_Kitchen

Affected smart meter readings have been remediated

On Friday March 6th, a planned software upgrade to one of our internal systems caused some smart meter readings to be processed incorrectly, this was not related to the integrity of the smart meters themselves, or the way they record energy use.

ESB Networks resolved the software issue on March 9th and has now completed the data‑correction process for the affected customer meter readings. Corrected readings are available in the ESB Networks Online Account for customers to view and download.

In the meantime, customers do not need to do anything as your electricity bill will be issued by your Supplier.

We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused and appreciate customer patience while this issue was being resolved.

My electricity bill looks higher than usual – is this because of the data issue?

It could be that your bill covers a longer period than normal, this is because your supplier delayed issuing it until they received and verified corrected data from us. A bill covering a slightly longer period than the normal will naturally look higher, but it reflects your normal usage over that extended period.

If you remain concerned about your bill or managing larger than usual payments, please contact your supplier as they have support options available.

When will the corrected data be available on the ESB Networks Online Account?

The corrected usage data is available on the ESB Networks Online Account for customers to view and download as normal.

What measures are ESB Networks taking to ensure this does not happen again?
ESB Networks has paused system upgrades while it conducts a full post-incident review and will incorporate all improvements identified.
