Non-personal smart meter data
Non-personal smart meter data
In its role as Data Systems Provider (DSP) as described within the Smart Meter Data Access Code, ESB Networks is required to publish non-personal data reports from data collected by all smart meters across the country.
To ensure smart meter data is ‘non-personal’ it must be aggregated or combined in such a way that the data can no longer be used to identify any individual customer.
ESB Networks began publishing non-personal smart meter data reports following the enactment of S.I. No 589/2025 in December 2025.
More information on the non-personal data reports can be found below.
Frequently asked questions
What Non-Personal Data Reports are available?
The Non-Personal Data Reports available to download below feature the average amount of incoming and outgoing electricity as measured by all smart meters within a specific DUoS group*, over a specified calendar month.
In line with data retention policies, these reports will be available for up to 24 months on the ESB Networks website.
*Note: The DUoS (Distribution Use of System) Group refers to a code that indicates the tariff that ESB Networks charges a customer’s Electricity Supplier for use of the Electricity Distribution System. The DUoS Group classification can be based on several factors including the voltage premises is connected at, the type of meter installed, or if electricity is exported. For more information on DUoS groups please refer to Description of Characteristics of Connection - DUoS and MCC Codes.
What data is included in the Non-Personal DUoS Group Data Report?
The DUoS Group Averaged 30 minute interval Data Report includes the following:
- 30-minute Interval Consumption Data - Average Active Import kilowatts (kW)
- 30-minute Interval Channel Consumption Data - Average Active Export kilowatts (kW)
- The Average Active Import & Export figures within a specific line item of the dataset are the average amount of incoming and outgoing electricity
as measured by all smart meters within a specific DUoS group during each half hour period. This includes those smart meters that recorded no incoming electricity during that period. - The data report only includes actual readings, with no estimated data included. Each 30-minute period reflects the average power over 30 minutes in kW, rather than the instantaneous power value (the amount of power consumed at a particular point in time).
- The data report is based on daylight saving time (DST).
How can the Data Reports be accessed?
- The reports are available for download via the link provided below.
- The file(s), which are provided in .csv format, can be opened and viewed in any compatible spreadsheet application.
- The data is organised by DUoS group, for easy sorting and viewing.
How often are the Data Reports updated?
- Non-Personal Smart Meter Data Reports will be produced monthly, with each published file containing data for the previous calendar month.
