We are ESB Networks. We ensure that electricity gets to the homes and businesses of our 2.3 million electricity customers, safely and efficiently. We have invested over €6bn in the electricity network over the last 10 years to ensure that it is reliable and enables communities and businesses in Ireland to grow and develop.
We provide a wide range of services to our customers, all of whom need to be registered with an electricity supplier. Each year we carry out over 9 million meter readings and provide these to your supplier in order to ensure you receive correct billing. We also deliver a range of technical services such as restoring supply when network faults occur, for example due to storms. Other services, some of which are chargeable, include undertaking line alterations at the customer’s request and carrying out service alterations requested via suppliers.
Whether you are a domestic or a commercial customer, we will provide a new electricity connection that best suits your needs.
Your safety is our priority. Electricity is a powerful energy source but it can be dangerous. Always follow our safety guidelines. To ensure you stay safe, stay clear of overhead, underground and fallen electricity wires, always look out for electricity wires when you are outside . ‘Stay safe, stay clear’. For emergencies call 1850 372 999.
Acting responsibly in all aspects of our business is one of our key priorities.
EirGrid and ESB Networks, in their respective capacity as TSO and TAO, today publish for consultation the draft, 2018 Annual Electricity Transmission Performance Report (APR) and 2018 Investment Planning and Delivery Report (IPD).

The CRU as part of its decision paper CER/18/097, decisions 1 and 5, requires the TSO and the TAO to produce joint reports setting out their annual performance in regard to the operation and development of the Transmission System. The reports are intended to provide customers, industry participants and other interested parties with a clear, accessible, comprehensive, quantified but non-technical report on performance in the calendar year.
The reports will evolve overtime, taking into account feedback from industry and stakeholders and changes as may be requested by the CRU. As part of this process we are seeking customers and stakeholders feedback on the draft reports in advance of their finalisation, for example are there areas that you feel require more detail or indeed where you feel there is too much focus; areas that are not currently covered that should be considered for inclusion etc.
Interested stakeholder’s views are invited until 10 January 2020 and can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com
The 2018 reports build on our 2017 reports which are available on our website here
The purpose of this consultation is to seek views and feedback on the information detailed in the Strategic Stakeholder publications (Strategic Stakeholder Engagement Framework and Strategic Stakeholder Engagement Plan 2020).

Background and Process
In order to continually enhance and develop our engagement approach, ESB Networks is consulting with customers and stakeholders on its approach to stakeholder engagement (set out in the Strategic Stakeholder Engagement Framework) and its planned key area of engagement activity during 2020 (set out in the Strategic Stakeholder Engagement Plan 2020).
Associated with this, ESB Networks is required to submit an annual report on its stakeholder engagement strategy and activities to enable the CRU to assess and score ESB Networks on the quality, good implementation and effectiveness of its stakeholder strategy in the previous year. This is detailed in the CRU decision paper Reporting and Incentives under PR4, (CER/18/087).
Do you have any comments on the ESB Networks Strategic Stakeholder Engagement Framework and Strategic Stakeholder Engagement Plan 2020?

ESB Networks is committed to playing its part in leading Ireland’s transition to a low carbon future powered by clean electricity. ESB Networks Innovation Strategy has eight roadmaps to drive us towards the network of the future. The challenge of an Ireland powered by secure, affordable and zero carbon electricity will take far more than the technologies, techniques and business models we use today. We are very clear that a key challenge in enabling the network of the future, together with the delivery of the recent National Climate Action Plan, is how we innovate to improve the connection of HV and MV customers to the electricity system, i.e. increasing the volume of renewable generation connected; to increase the speed with which customers (e.g. new generation, demand, flexibility etc.) are connected; to improve network resilience and security of supply; and to continue to connect in an economic manner. To that end, we set up a project called Smarter HV and MV Customer Connections (previously referred to as the Distribution Planning and Security of Supply Revie Project) as a flagship initiative of our Connecting Renewables Innovation roadmap.
We have engaged with key stakeholder groups at different stages of the project. Traditionally the Distribution Planning and Security of Supply Standards are reviewed at regular intervals in the course of business-as-usual however the Smarter HV and MV Customer Connections project goes significantly further as it is a fundamental review of the baseline philosophy of ESB Networks distribution network planning to ensure that Ireland’s energy policy objectives can continue to be met economically and sustainably and that the network’s security of supply is appropriate as the country moves to increased levels of electrification of heat and transport.
This consultation seeks views on our proposals to more innovatively connect customers in the future. We want to continue to work collaboratively with our many stakeholders and to that end, we welcome your comments and feedback on the proposals detailed in this document.
The consultation period has been extended by one week and will now close on Friday 13th December 2019. At the end of the consultation period, ESB Networks will review and consider all the comments.

In May 2018 the CRU published its decision paper on “Reporting and Incentives under Price Review 4” (CER/18/087). CER/18/087 set out a set of twenty decisions for improving reporting and incentives arrangements, covering the totality of the activities undertaken by the Transmission System Operator (TSO), the Transmission Asset Owner (TAO) and the Distribution Systems Operator/Distribution Asset Owner (DSO/DAO) on behalf of current and future customers and market participants.
Decision 8 of CER/18/097 sets out the arrangements for the TSO and TAO in terms of outage management. It states that the TAO may access a “use-it-or-lose it” allowance to fund, by agreement with the TSO – and following appropriate consultation with potentially affected parties – actions to reduce the duration or timing of planned outages at short-notice. The mechanism shall be consulted on by the TSO and TAO prior to implementation.
The consultation paper has set out a proposed mechanism and now asks stakeholders a number of key questions to assist in structuring responses. The key questions are set out below:
The consultation period runs for six (6) weeks and will close on 21st November 2019.
The companies welcome all responses from interested stakeholders. Responses should be submitted to both email@example.com [EirGrid] and firstname.lastname@example.org [ESB Networks] by 5pm on 21st November 2019.
Please note: ESB Networks may publish responses that we receive, so if you do not want your response published you should mark your response as confidential.

Innovation in ESB Networks - Aug 2019 | Download PDF | 20 MB
In order to realise our vision of delivering a sustainable, low carbon energy network that will serve Ireland’s future energy needs, we have developed an Innovation Strategy to manage every stage of the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, from setting the vision to establishing business as usual (BAU). Our Innovation Strategy has been applied to a balanced portfolio of projects covering eight roadmaps that broadly cover our ambition to deliver new and improved services.
During 2018, 16 projects were completed and the others continued to progress. We have over 20 new ideas that we have identified for further consideration and possible progression into our roadmaps.
1. As part of this on going collaboration and communication, we are interested to seek your views on our innovation processes, activities and priorities to date as summarised in this update document. In particular, we are interested in feedback on our proposed new projects listed at the end of the document.
The consultation period will close on Friday 13th September 2019. At the end of the consultation period, ESB Networks will review and consider all the comments.
