ESB Networks COVID-19 Customer Update

We understand this continues to be an incredibly challenging time for you, our customers. We want to reassure you that our staff and crews are working hard to ensure the electricity network remains secure and reliable during these uncertain and unprecedented times. Although the staff and crews in ESB Networks did not stop working, certain services have been affected due to the Government restrictions.  Since the Government’s announcements regarding Phase 1 of the Roadmap for Reopening Society and Business, some of these restrictions have now been lifted and work that had been paused may now be restarted.  We are now working to clear any backlogs that have built up during the lock down period.  We apologise to any of our customers who may be experiencing delays with our services.

We remain committed to keeping our customers and staff safe.  We have implemented several new procedures to ensure that this continues such as:

  •  Remote working for office-based staff where possible.
  • Additional hygiene practices that our crews must follow while on customer premises
  •  Ensuring our crews work individually or in restricted teams where necessary
  • Carrying out Smart Meter replacements for external meters only and with Customers’ agreement.

As an essential service we will keep our promise to maintain the electricity network so that you and homes, businesses, farms, communities and other essential services across Ireland can continue working and all of our customers can keep living their lives with electricity during this pandemic.

Our ongoing maintenance to keep the electricity network safe and reliable sometimes involves necessary outages so that we can provide new connections for homes, businesses and critical healthcare connections.  Our crews may need to remove safety hazards, fix faults due to weather or incidents involving wildlife or farm animals.  We must also carry out necessary maintenance to ensure the reliability of the network for the winter months and to ensure reliability for increased demand for an increase in electric cars and heating for example.

We are conscious that most of our customers must continue to remain in their homes for the most part and that a power outage is not ideal to say the least.  We are working to minimise outages as much as possible.  The number of customers that may be affected by a planned outage are a small percentage of our total customer base and we are working hard to restrict the number as the length of possible power outages.  We apologise to those affected and we are asking for your patience with us as we work to continue to ensure the electricity network continues to be the backbone on which Ireland returns to normality.

Our Customer Care team is working remotely to continue to deliver customer service to all ESB Networks customers, across all our channels.
