Smart Metering Update

The National Smart Metering Programme was established by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities and forms part of the National Climate Action Plan. ESB Networks, has been tasked with upgrading all 2.4 million electricity meters in homes, farms and businesses across Ireland with smart electricity meters between now and 2024. This upgrade is being carried out at no additional cost to customers.  Smart meters will provide customers with better information to enable them to reduce their energy usage, carbon footprint and, over time, eliminate the need for estimated bills.

The rollout of smart meters began in Portlaoise and Bandon in autumn 2019 and extended to additional areas of Cork City, South County Dublin and Navan, with deployment due to commence in parts of Dublin Central, Dublin North, Sligo and Limerick in the second half of this year.  To find out more visit
